IIFT 2009 - Post Exam Analysis
Posted by Top Coaching Experts
IIFT 2009 was a 2 hour paper like last year. But unlike last year this year there were only four sections (with two subsections in the VA section) as compared to the six sections last year. Overall the paper threw lesser surprises this year in terms of pattern of the exam while in terms of the difficulty level it was almost same as that of last year.
The four sections were:
Section - 1 ( GK) - 20 questions. Marks per questions = 0.4
Section - 2 ( QA) - 28 questions. Marks per questions = 1.0
Section - 3 ( VA) . Part - 1 - 15 questions. Marks per questions = 1.0 ( Reading comprehension).
Part - 2 - 25 questions. Marks per questions = 0.6 ( Grammar and English usage).
Section - 4 (DI & LR) 34 questions. Marks per question = 1.0
The QA section was pretty tough and a score of 7-8 marks would be decent. Cut - off should not be more than 4.
VA was moderate and the cut-off should be around 8-9 marks.
DI - LR section was moderately tough and the cut - off should be around 6 marks.
GK was easy but the cut-off should still not be more than 3 considering it is not a main subject.
Overall the cutoff for IIFT delhi should be around 27-28 marks.
The order of section names and subjects are according to a particular set of the question paper and different set had different order of each sections.
Negative marks for wrong answer was 1/3rd of the total marks as compared to 1/4th of the total marks last year which should bring the cut-off slightly down.A higher negative mark per wrong attempt was probably a bigger surprise than anything else IIFT paper had to offer.
The sectional cut-off was specifically mentioned in the instructions on the question paper.
The total number of questions this year was 122 as compared to 150 last year. There were only 20 questions in GK as compared to 30 last year so the emphasis on GK was lesser this year.
The question paper over all was more or less the same as last year but a lower number of total questions and a higher negative mark on wrong answers means that the total cut-off will be slightly lesser than the last year.
