SNAP 2009 which was conducted today was a painless effort for mostof the students. The total number of questions increased back to 150 from 135questions. The Analytical and Logical Reasoning section had 30 questions of 2 marks each. However the other 3sections, viz. General English, GeneralAwareness and Quantitative and Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency, each had 40 questions of 1 mark each.
| Section | No. Of Questions | Marks Allotted | Difficulty Level | Ideal Time | Possible Attempts | Expected Cut Offs |
| Quant/DI/DS | 40 | 40 | Easy | 30 min | 22 | 14+ |
| LR/AR | 30 | 60 | Average | 40 min | 20 | 25+ |
| General English | 40 | 40 | Easy | 25 min | 24 | 16+ |
| General Awareness | 40 | 40 | Above Average | 25min | 18 | 8+ |
QuantitativeAbility, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency
The QA + DI-DR section was more or less same as last year except that the number of questions were 40 instead of 35.This section had simple clear-cut problems where knowledge of basic fundamentals was required.
There were direct questions which required noapplication. In the quantitative part, the emphasis was on Arithmetic i.e. analysis and concepts such as Alligation, Profit and loss, permutations and combinations and probability. The questions covered the entire syllabus. The questions in quant were from percentage, profit and loss, premutations and combinations, probability, venn diagrams, mean and variance and geometric progression.A few of the questions required simple calculations.
This section also had 3 DI sets based on VennDiagram (2 Questions), table (3 questions) and Pie- Charts (4 questions). TheVenn Diagram and table questions were really easy but the questions based onPie- Charts required thorough calculation. There was no DS question and just 2Geometry questions.
A good attempt in this section would be around 20 to22 questions with a possible score of 18 to 20 marks.
Analytical& Logical Reasoning
This section, which had 30 questions of 2 marks eachwere average.
There were questions on DI also apart from Verbal Reasoning, CriticalReasoning, Logical Reasoning and Visual Reasoning. Most of the DIquestions needed only a basic understanding of data and simple logicalreasoning and no calculations. There were 2 questions on Magic Squares wherein the empty boxes in the square hadto be filled. It took some time to solve. There were 5 single-question sets onStrong/Weak Arguments, which compared to the rest of the section, were slightlyon the tougher side, requiring some analysis. The 2 visual reasoning questionswere really simple. There were 2 questions on conditionalities and grouping, which again were very easy. There was one question on Complete the Series. It was easy. There were 4 questions on Analogy in which there were two missing items in each questions, which had to be chosen from given options.
There were 4 DI sets comprising a total of 11 questions. One set had 4question, one had 3 and the other two had 2 questions each. One of the four sets was required lot of calculation. The others were easy.
A good attempt would have been around 18 to 22 questions with a score of about 30 to 32 marks.
GeneralEnglish
General English was so general this time. This was acomparatively easy section. The questions were easier than those which havebeen appearing for the last three years. Thequestions based on grammar were mostly doable. Most of the questions were based on grammar and usage and there were 5 questions based on direct vocabulary. There were many questions asked on topics like synonyms, plurals, spellings and usage. There wasjust one RC, on child psychology. The questions were mostly indirect, but nottoo difficult. The passage was somewhat simple to read.
A good attempt would have been 23 to 25 questions with a possiblescore of 20 + marks.
GeneralAwareness
This section was challenging and mostdifficult to deal with. Questions had close options. General Awareness section this timeconcentrated more on topics like awards, economics, business affairs, etc. Itcontained less questions on current affairs A few questions were on sports.
A good attempt in this section would be 15 to 18 questions with apossible score of 8 to12 marks.
