Posted by Top Coaching Experts
This year’s FMS consisted of 200 questions, compared to last year’s 175. The marking scheme was +4 for correct answers and -1 for negative answers. Thus, the total marks was 800.
Structure of the Test:
Institutes accepting this exam score – FMS.
Total Duration of the exam – 2 hours
Total number of questions – 200
Number of sections – 4
Number of choices per question – 4
Marks per question – 4
Negative marking – 1 mark per question.
The four sections were:
• Section 1: Reading Comprehension
• Section 2: Logical Reasoning
• Section 3: Verbal Ability
• Section 4: Quantitative Ability
Section 1 – Reading Comprehension:
The RC section consisted of 4 passages with passages mostly on business strategy and management except one which was on philosophy. The passages were lengthy but the question were mostly straight forward. A couple of RCs were 4-5 pages long and this passage has also come in FMS 2005. A reasonable attempt in this section would have been in 15-16 questions.
Section 2 – Logical Reasoning:
This section was the easiest section of the paper. This section had 40 questions on logical reasoning, 2 anagrams and rest were of DI. Most of the questions were easy and the LR questions were mostly on sitting arrangement and family tree. In 30 minutes a reasonable attempt should be 22-24 questions.
Section 3 – Verbal Ability:
This section was moderately difficult with 13 questions on usage and 37 questions from direct vocabulary. The vocabulary questions were slightly difficult. 20 minutes were enough for this section and a good attempt should have been 25.
Section 4 – Quantitative Ability:
This section had 50 questions with questions mostly on algebra and arithmetic. A few questions were on coordinate geometry too. This section was mostly doable and a reasonable attempt within the given time limit should be 20-25 questions.
Overall the cut-off should be somewhere around 260-270.
