How NMAT is different from other management entrance test:
NMAT is divided into 3 sections viz. Language Skills, Quantitative Skills, Data Interpretation & DS and Logical Reasoning .If previous year’s papers are anything to go by it can be conclusively said that NMAT is all about speed and accuracy . The difficulty level of the questions asked in the NMAT is “moderate” at best and to get through the number of attempts has to be on the higher side. Last year cut-off was 91 out of 150 possible total marks (1 marks for each right answer and 0.25 negative mark for each wrong ones). This suggests that at the minimum 70% of questions should be attempted with more than 80% accuracy. Since the number of questions is high one should make sure that all the “easier” ones should be attempted which means that you should not spend time on a question which is doable but lengthy. You can always get back to such questions later. Later in this article we will see that pattern of the questions asked in previous years NMATs .
The most distinct aspect which makes NMAT different from other entrance though is the weightage given to the NMAT score in the final selection.NMAT score has a staggering 80% weightage in the final selection which means that to get into NMIMS barely crossing the cut-offs wont be enough.
NMAT-2010
According to the official announcement made by the NMIMS ,following points should be taken note of :
1. The NMAT has three sections. The total of 120 questions to be attempted over 120 minutes.
2. The structure of the test is as given below :

Last year’ NMAT analysis:
Following table summarizes the NMAT 2008 as far as number of questions, marking etc are concerned :

NMAT 2008 was no different from its previous avatar and it tested the speed of the candidates appearing for the exam. All in all there were 3 sections which tested candidates on Quantitative Ability,Logical Reasoning,D.I. and English. There were total 150 questions to be attempted in 120 mins.
Lets look into each section into some details .
Section – I (Language Skills)
Number of questions: 40
This section can be termed as easy to moderate in terms of difficulty level. Questions were asked from Reading Comprehensions, questions based on given paragraph,synonyms/antonyms,grammar and vocabulary . Given the difficulty level a score of around 30 should be considered as excellent .
Section-II(Quantitative Skills, Data Interpretation & DS)
Number of questions : 60
Quantitative Skills, Data Interpretation & DS section posed no surprise and was on expected lines. This section has the most questions among the three sections and overall easy to moderate difficulty level meant that one had to score high marks in this section to maximize overall marks. Questions on Math were mostly on simple arithmetic (simplification),ratio and proportion, approximations, number series ,compound interest etc. In DI questions were asked on Bar-Graph,Tables and caselets.A total of 5 questions were asked in the DS.
Given the difficulty level any score above 40 should be considered excellent.
Section-III(Logical Reasoning )
Number of questions: 50
Logical reasoning section was the toughest section among the three (comparatively speaking ,of course!!) . Questions were based on alpha-numeric sequence, blood-relation, coding-decoding, decision making, deductions, symbols, syllogism, Puzzles. The questions were in line with the questions asked in various Bank P.O. exams and difficulty level was moderate at the best. A score of 30plus should be considered excellent.
Over all cut-off for the last year was 91. Though number of questions has decreased by 30 this year given the general difficulty level not much change is expected in the overall cutoff.
All the best for NMAT 2010.
